Just an average day in the G-burg household.  The boys chasing Daddy around the house, and barking.  Pretty entertaining, I have to say.

I have a FABULOUS announcement to make.  And now it’s totally cool for me to spread the news wherever, cause the DEAL IS SEALED.

We G-burgs are moving.

We’re going home.

That’s right.  BACK TO TEXAS.  Houston, aka H-Town or Hustle Town, to be exact.  Makes sense.  Grew up in Dallas, college in Austin, now it’s time to venture a bit further south.

I could not be more ecstatic.  I have never been happy in Charlotte, try as I might.  I’m sorry, CLT.  It’s just – when you have lived in AUSTIN, wail…

Things I have learned about Houston thus far:

- It is the 4th largest city in the U.S., following NYC, LA, and Chicago.
- The mosquitoes are roughly the size of a half dollar (this is a joke…kinda).
- There is no H&M (seriously?!  4th largest city!) but there IS a Whole Foods

Shane’s sis and her soon-to-be hubby reside there, as well as several friends from college.  My parents are 4 hours away.  Our alma mater is 3 hours away.  The beach is a half hour away.  Beaumont is…wait, who cares about Beaumont?

I have lists of things I’m looking forward to and things I’ll miss.

I can’t wait to be home.

Almost three years ago my parents gave me a coffee table book on North Carolina.  My dad inscribed it, “As you begin this new journey and evolve into a tarheel, remember your TRUE ROOTS from time to time.”  Welp…the truth is this.  I’ve never been a tarheel – not even after almost three years.  THREE YEARS.  Hard to believe.  A worthy (mostly) experience, because now I know I can never leave the great state of Texas.  It makes me wonder why we ever did to begin with?  Oh…right.  Someone (most definitely not me and surely someone else) said they would NEVER live in Beaumont.

The truth…we’ve always been Texans.  We’ve always been Longhorns.  And people don’t change who they are deep down.

So I want to start a new lil section on the new lil bloggie donated to one of my favorite pasttimes – eating.

We’ve been trying some new places lately, mostly thanks to Groupon and Living Social …some have been good, some not so much.  But I’ll try to give some honest recaps for those interested.

Living Social had a special for Crepe Cellar, a cozy eatery in NoDa (that’s North Davidson street for those not well-versed in Charlotte geography).  The place is awfully small and pretty warm inside, but since we went for a late-bird dinner around 9:00pm, we didn’t have to wait.  It’s not that we’re posh or party people, we just both had late lunches this Saturday.

We had bought the coup for $20 and that earned us 40 beans to spend at CC.  Booyah.

I started out with some Cupcake Chardonnay while Shanester ordered a Hoppytown IPA. .. I woulda ordered one just for the name.

Their fish and chips were ranked on Charlotte’s Best of the Best food, so Shane went with that.  I had a savory buckwheat crepe filled with spinach, wild mushrooms, and goat cheese.   It was pretty much a party in my mouth, not gonna lie.  And if you’re a carnivore needin the meats, you can add chicken for a buck fifty.

Ok – I WAS interested in the dinner menu, and it DID turn out to be delicious, in fact.  But let’s face the facts kiddies. I wanted strictly Nutella and banana.  In my mouf.

We split one fine specimen of crepe and it was everything I dreamed it would be!  I haven’t had a crepe since I lived in Dallas, and that was 2007 yo.  And NorthPark Mall CrepeMaker could not compare to the goodness that was in front of me.  I was so full and probably would not have stopped until the plate was licked clean – but S was looking at me with a rather disgusted face, so I held back.

Ok, this post is getting a little too eatpraylovish with all the self-indulgent-let’s-get-obese-because-food-is-love craziness so I’ll stop.

All in all, Crepe Cellar was yum.  I’m no professional food critic, so that’s all you’re gonna get.  It’s yum.  Eat it.

Well yall, I’ve been having a bit of a blog identity crisis.  Wah wah…who am I?  Define me!  And the like.

Finally decided to start using the blog that God and LiLu both intended.

And man, can I just say….today would be the day.  Today we G-burgs got some fantabulous news that I’ll be only too happy to share once things are fully settled.  Promises, promises, I know.

But foz real.  No more joking around.  We really are growing up.

And no, I’m not pregnant.  Jeez.

Sorry yall.  I know we promised big news, and then just totally left ya hangin.

It’s just that…I’m bored of this blog.  And apparently others are too.  I’m trying hard to reconcile the tones and personalities of the old blog and the new one.  It just takes time.

Well, we do have news.  We added a member of the G-burg fam!

Please give a warm welcome to Charles Augustus Schuck Ginsburg X.  Or…we call him Charlie.

Excuse the absence, the Shanester and I were on hiatus while on VACAY!  More about THAT to come soon as well.

We hosted our 3rd annual Passover seder in Charlotte with friends Amy and Katie – we invite people to come each year and lo and behold, these gorgeous gals had their Monday evening free.  It’s just not the same without friends to share it with you!

The dining room table was set with the haggadot on the plates – the haggadah is the telling of the story of Passover.  You might know it as the Ten Commandments story – Charleton Heston, anyone?

Katie and Amy made fabulous Pesach guests and even helped us read the story – and of course eat the festive meal!

And Amy got a great shot of our little family – Mac just loooooves Passover!

I’m writing at In It to Gym It!

Because my butt needs to get in shape!  Now, since we don’t actually have a gym membership (due to lack of use), I like to get my shapes on via exercise ball.  And Shane likes to document it!

Oh, c’mon!  YOU try balancing on it with no hands and feet touching the ground – it’s hard AND a good core workout.  I’m falling off in that pic, obviously.  Aaaand here’s me striking a very drill-team-esque pose.  Nice.

Macker likes to get in on the exercise action by giving me kisses during crunches.

I’ll have you all know I’ve lost five pounds!  Fifteeeeeen to go!  To get back to my body that makes a brotha say “dayummmnnnnn,” cause now, not so much.

Yall Jews out there know THAT day.  It’s the day where Shane usually says “…mmmk, I get the point.  Time to eat bread now.”

And for the gentiles – we can’t eat anything leavened for a week.  Because our ancestors didn’t have time for the bread to rise while they fleed Egypt. 

While Passover is my fav Jewish holiday (because of all the tradition, seder, etc), not eating bread sucks.  It’s probably my favorite thing to eat.  Boo.

Get it?  Instead of hardened?  Hrm.

We have the plants in our little “jiffy” thingy.  Check it out here.

The foods this season – lettuce, carrots, THREE kinds of tomatoes, jalapenos, banana peppers, blueberries, blackberries.  I’m probably leaving something out, darn.

I can’t wait to get these things planted!  The tomatoes grew awesomely last year so we’re planting more.  We nixed cucumbers (never grew) and bell peppers (grew in funky!) and kept the jalapenos.

In addition to the little edible garden on the side of our house, we’re also planting some bootyful orange dahlias.  In the front beds and possibly on the easement – depending on the HOA drama this week.
