TV Goals

Yes, I have television goals. You read that correctly.

Let me break it down for ya. I spend approximately five hours on any given day nursing. Now, let’s figure that 1.5 of those are in bed, the night feedings. We don’t have a TV in our room, so I’m screwed in that department. But the other 3.5 hours can be spent productively, and by productively, I mean watching TV. Not to mention the hours Rach insists on being held while sleeping (and screams bloody murder if you put her down). I’ve just about mastered the Moby wrap, but sometimes I’m not wearing it when she falls asleep and I’ll be damned if I’m not gonna get a nice half hour of peace and quiet. I could write a whole post on this, but Rachel hates sleep and for the past day has been fatigued and screaming. I think we’ve caught her up now but it wasn’t easy.  Even Shane, the most patient man on the planet, lost his shit just a liiiiiittle bit. Anyway.

Back to my TV goals. I’ve almost crushed everything on the DVR, save for a couple of movies and some episodes of Jeopardy! and Friends. So I had started making a list of all the shows I’d never seen or the ones I needed to rewatch and catch up on. Thanks to everyone who weighed in! But I need some help deciding which are most important for me to watch, so please cast some votes.  This is important, people. Here’s the list:

Lost – Never watched.

24 – Never watched.

Fringe – Never watched.

Game of Thrones – Watched the first season and loved. Need to catch up.

House of Cards – Watched the first 4 episodes and loved. Need to catch up.

Sons of Anarchy – Never watched.

Mad Men – Watched the first season and random episodes of later seasons. Loved and need to catch up.

Veronica Mars – Never watched. Marisa insists I must and brought over the first season!

Friday Night Lights – Never watched.

Damages – Never watched.

The Wire – Never watched.

Orange Is the New Black – Done. Watched the first season (only season) on Netflix and thought it was so awesome that I bought the book and will be recommending it for book club. No, it’s not a fashion show (someone asked me) – it’s about a women’s prison and based on a memoir.

Hatufim/Prisoners of War – Watched the first episode at a Jewish young adults event. It’s the show that Homeland is based off. In subtitles but oh well. Need to watch it on Hulu.

Homeland – Done. All caught up! Shane and I watched this one. My assessment: the first season was great, action-packed, addicting. So slow after that, and got pretty boring. I was pleased with the season finale, though it felt like a series finale, no?

Six Feet Under – A favorite show of mine, I’ve seen all the episodes but it’s been years. Would love to rewatch, but obviously this will take a backseat. Highly recommend if you haven’t seen it.

True Blood – I had been wanting to watch this. I told Marisa I was watching it and she vehemently disapproved (though she still watches it, I might add), stating that it was awful. I told her I would just finish the first season, but oops, here I am in the middle of season 3. If it helps, I hate myself. It’s truly (truebloodly?) terrible.  The final season (7) starts soon.

Scandal – Never watched.

The Walking Dead – Never watched, there’s a marathon on AMC and we plan to start from the beginning.

So what should I watch next? And what’s not worth my time? Any other recs?

What’s your favorite show? I’ve mentioned this already, but mine is The Mindy Project! Please watch this scene and tell me you don’t love it already.

And when Orange Is the New Black comes back, that will be in the running too.  Breaking Bad was amazing, it’s Shane’s favorite and yes, arguably the most well-written show in the past decade.

I’ve watched both the Game of Thrones and The Tudors. I personally liked The Tudors better because of the story line that simultaneously chronicles England’s history/Henry VIII’s life and much better actors/acting.

Oh, good call on The Tudors. I have really been wanting to watch that too. But I do love Game of Thrones. I might have to cross a couple others off this list.

Lost, Scandal, Veronica Mars or Friday Night Lights. Those will change your life. I binge watched Lost and Friday Night Lights (worth it) and I donated to the Veronica Mars movie kickstarter. (Coming out this year!)

These are your only options.
