A post that’s not about the baby? Dare I?!

Miss Zippy is hosting a fun linkup that some of my favorite bloggers have been participating in! While 2013 wasn’t stellar in so far as races and such, thanks to the whole being pregnant thing, it’s still worth looking back and reflecting on how far I have come since I started running a few years ago.

Best Race Experience: It was awesome PRing at Galveston Marathon (and somehow placing second in my age group, it was a small race), and I loved San Diego Rock ‘n Roll Marathon. I didn’t participate, I was an on-course coach for Team in Training. But it was still one of the best races of the year! It was also fun participating in the Patriot 5K with my dad and sister – we all placed!

BUT I’d have to say the BEST race was Woodlands Half – the morning after I found out we were expecting.

Ok, I just listed a lot of races.  Whatevs.

Best Run: Had a great second trimester 9-miler with my good friend Shea. We ran through River Oaks super early in the morning at a decent pace. And even though I dropped some Honey Stinger chews on the ground (don’t worry, I still ate them), it stands out to me as a great run! Also can’t forget those multiple morning runs along the bayou with Aimee and Shea as well – thanks to both of you for putting up with my slow pace :o )

Best New Piece of Gear: My replaced Garmin 405. If that’s not true love, I don’t know what is.

Best Piece of Running Advice You Received: Run on tired legs. Pushing it the day before easy long run builds endurance. I can’t wait to get back to training and pushing my pace!

Most Inspirational Runner: I am always inspired by my teammates at TNT. Their reasons for running are varied, but we are all connected by the cause. Love it! Looking forward to another TNT event this year.

If you could sum up your year in a couple of words, what would they be? This year was a break. Not the worst thing that could happen to a gal.

2013 was a break, yes. But I’m looking forward to being able to run again (2.5 more weeks!!) and setting some new records and having a blast in 2014. Upcoming races seen here.

I agree about training on tired legs, especially if you’re training for a marathon. Great year of running in your expecting state–you’ll be amazed at how well your run next year post-baby. Good luck with delivery!

Haha thanks – I had a c-section 4 weeks ago – only 2 more weeks til running! I think the baby will be my secret weapon in the jogging stroller ;)
