Week 34

The baby is the size of a large canteloupe.

I didn’t cut my hair short again; it’s just back in a ponytail.

Total Weight Gain: 22 pounds as of this morning. Made up for that pound I lost and then some. I attribute the gaining more to the not working out as much or as strenuously. But I haven’t really changed my diet, so there’s that. I’m still confident I’ll keep it between 25-30 pounds, perfectly healthy for my size.

Weekly Workouts: Yeah, I’m barely working out. Did some squats, stairs, and weights on Monday. Three mile walk with Shea on Tuesday, ate the calories back in pasta. Nothing but walking dogs on Wednesday. 3 mile walk on Friday. 5 mile walk Saturday during water stopping for the TNT Nike team (with just a little running in there)! Swam 1200 meters with Aimee at 288 yesterday (non-stop! she is ready for her tri!).

Maternity Clothes: Now I just wear the same things to work every week. Don’t care, not buying anything else.

Sleep: Been getting better but we’ll see.

Best Moment of the Week: It was so fun taking a newborn care class with Shane and watching him diaper and swaddle the baby doll. My mom said he “engineered” this diaper because it looks perfect!

He kept making the doll’s head turn toward me, “like Chucky.”

Food cravings: Watermelon!! And all weekend I really wanted a meatless meatball sub – Shane made them last night, and they were delicious.

Food aversions: Nothing right now.

Symptoms: Started having contractions again last night. Not as worrisome as the last time, these were about 20 minutes apart but went on for 5-ish hours. My doc said I only should call if I have more than 5 in an hour, so no need. I am super emotional. Am I the only one who cried at the finale of Breaking Bad? Should I blame the hormones?

Movement: She is still dancing around in there!

“Your baby could be as tall as 20 inches right now and about five pounds. Need a visual? Hold a five-pound bag of flour in your arms and imagine it’s your soon-to-be-born baby (cradle it, and you’ll only get strange looks in the baking aisle). Then stack three such bags one on top of the other. That’s how tall your baby is at 34 weeks pregnant. (Now go bake some oatmeal raisin cookies with all that flour!)

Your baby’s fingernails now reach the end of the fingertips and may even curl over the tip, making a manicure one of the first things you’ll need to do for your little bundle.” – What to Expect (

Gender: It’s a girl!

What I’m Looking Forward To: Going to Dallas this weekend for the baby shower my sister and two good friends are hosting there!!  Also, spectating the triathlon!! I can’t wait to cheer Aimee and some other friends on!

What I Miss: Riding a bike. And I have a strong urge to take shots just to get a buzz, jeez. Don’t worry, I won’t. But I have been sober for 8.5 months now, lame.

Next Appointment: October 3rd.

Estimated due date is November 11th.

I read that the baby gains 1/2lb per week (and we gain 1lb per week as a result) for the rest of the 3rd trimester, so that’s probably the biggest reason for the gain. Plus all that fun water retention. You still look fab – exercise or not :)

I am totally down with gaining 1lb/week!! That seems reasonable. And water retention, SO FUN, hahah.
Thanks lady! You’re wearing pregnancy well yourself!
