Thinking ahead – races in 2014.

A great motivator to staying in shape during pregnancy AND to get BACK in shape after baby is born is having some goals for next season. Ideally I want to start running within 6 weeks of having her. Slowly at first of course, but then gradually building back up. I haven’t been stressing too much about it. I know my body will remember how, it just will take time. I am also not-so-secretly hopeful that childbirth will give me a mental edge for endurance sports (just as I am hopeful that endurance sports will give me a mental edge for childbirth!). One of my friends told me, “Ironman is a piece of cake compared to labor.” So…yikes!

Anyway, here are the races I’m already registered for in early 2014. Can’t wait to start training!!

Sugar & Spice Half Marathon – I enjoyed the inaugural race last year even though the course went .8 miles too long. I am confident they’ll have that fixed! Pretty flat and I love that it starts super early – 6:30am. The colder it is, the better I run.

The Woodlands Marathon – Coming full circle!! I found out I was pregnant the night before Woodlands Half this year. I really want to run one spring and one fall marathon next year (no more of this five-marathons-a-year nonsense). I’m bummed that it’s no longer a looped course, but should be a good one anyway.

Ironman Texas 70.3 (Galveston) – I’ve done this 70.3 once, last year, as a warmup for IMTX, and that’s what I’ll be using it as again. Nice flat bike course (suck it, Oceanside), but heat is a factor. I am wondering if I will be able to talk Aimee into doing this one….just thinking out loud….  I am hoping I am not super sick for this one like I was last time – I went to bed not even sure if I would race.

Ironman Texas – Not sure what I was even thinking, except I thought it would be fun to train with all of my friends again and get in awesome post-baby shape.  Of course now that I’m officially registered (!!!!) a few people have backed out.  No matter.  Jess, Joanna, and I are still all in.  Like I said, I’m going to attempt and if the volume is too much I’ll have to reassess.  I’m not concerned about the stress on my body, I am more concerned that I won’t want to be away from the baby for so long – long bike rides can take all morning!

So much for doing “new” races next year. Maybe my fall marathon will be one I haven’t done before? I am hoping to also coach another season for TNT as well as work an event in there somewhere. We have been talking about Tahoe, but I just am not sure if my legs can suffer like that. Did you see the DNF (Did Not Finish) rate for inaugural Ironman Lake Tahoe was 20%? YIKES. It was SNOWING when they got in the water – temps in the 30s. No thank you. Although I guess the DNF due to cold only beats the Texas heat by 3% – rate for IMTX this past year was 17%.  Click to enlarge:

We are also talking about the Hot Chocolate 15K in Dallas!! That would be a great training run for Sugar & Spice, plus the swag is pretty awesome. I’ve never done a Hot Chocolate run before, but it sounds super fun.

I would love to PR my 10K time, since I’ve only run ONE 10K and I am much faster now (well not NOW now). Hell, I would love to PR all my times, but not sure if that will be in the cards for next year. Guess we’ll see how I feel.

I haven’t written the baby shower recap yet (need to get my mitts on the pics!), but for now let’s just say my amazing hostesses got me a secret weapon that will help me stay in tip-top training shape!!  ;)

What’s on your race schedule?? Maybe it’ll be something that intrigues me, haha!

Yo! I am going to do Galveston 70.3, so we can swim together! I found a sweet little secret swim spot! Email me about it! We could even go next weekend if you are up to it. ;)

I could be down for that…

You are amazing – Galveston plus IMTX so soon! Excited you are in though. Tahoe looked ridiculously cold… I think I’d opt for the Hot Chocolate run instead :)

Well I figure I will have 6ish months, not too shabby. I won’t start really training til the new year. Yeah, for sure Hot Chocolate over Tahoe!!

I’m signing up for the Medieval Mud Run! That’ll pretty much take care of the year for me.
