A Nursery, Part I

Once upon a time, we had this middle room downstairs.  It was the equivalent to the secret closet on Friends.

It held everything from a bike trainer (with bike attached, natch), a couch, a china buffet, items to be donated to Goodwill, and a closet that boasted a smorgasbord of paraphernalia.

Don’t know where to put something?  Stick it in the middle room.  I’m not kidding when I tell you that there were boxes we had not opened from our move from Charlotte.  I figured they couldn’t be that important, right?  At least we found the DVD of our wedding recently!

That’s all changed.  The room has a purpose now – it’s Baby Gins’ room!

Here’s what the room looked like after the couch found a new home at Aimee’s and our china buffet was also relocated:

Oh yeah, how could I forget the random media stand and TV?

We had a leak from our shower upstairs that stained the ceiling of our guest bath downstairs as well as part of the ceiling of the middle room – annoying.  It ended up being a cheap fix but it still cost us a few hours in Shane labor.

This weekend he finished re-priming and painting (and while he was at it, gave the walls a fresh coat of paint too!).

Now we could finally start to get the room ready.  And by we I mean Shane, since I don’t lift things these days.  I am a very helpful supervisor.  ”You missed a spot.”

Since the room had already been cleared out for painting purposes, we just had to move the new furniture in!  Well, the crib was new.  It is our baby gift from my parents :)  My dad’s parents bought my crib so they wanted to continue the tradition.  Shane put ‘er together last night!

Final product – lookin’ pretty classy and sturdy, right?

Snapped that one after I tossed a yellow crib skirt on it.  That’s actually the crib skirt my mom sewed for MY crib – wowza!!

The room now, with the rocking chair we pilfered from Aimee and the twin bed from my childhood.

Charlie approves, note the wagging tail.

Amazon was recently running a special and we got this awesome Graco changing table for only $23!! I love a bargain.

We originally were going to use my old dresser as a changing table, but that fits in the closet and this one will take up much less space – very key in this tiny room.  Now there is enough room for a bookshelf too!

It looks kinda plain right now.  And I do want a really simple and fairly neutral room (although the bedspread on the twin bed will be my fun flowery one from college) but I swear it will be cute.  Stay tuned for more FUN nursery updates.**

**I really loathe decorating and am not good at it, so if I can actually pull this room together before she is born I will consider it a great success.  Luckily I have two grandmothers-in-training who are more than willing to help!

Looks great. Tell Shane he needs to finish taking that crib out of the box. ;o)

Hah!! He left it on the cardboard because he knew I’d change my mind about where it should go – easy to slide across the room on the cardboard. He’s a thinker, that one.
