This week has been pretty decent so far.

Monday night was book club at Margarita’s house. We were discussing The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer. I really enjoyed it and though it was long, I found it to be a quick read. And NO, not everything is a quick read to me just because I am a fast reader – I have always devoured books, ask my parents. People think I don’t read all the details but I’m telling you – quiz me. I majored in English, my mind is trained to pick up on the details!


That’s something I was thinking of recently. I thought college was so hard, with so much reading and writing. Now I would kill for my days to be spent doing nothing but reading reading reading and then composing an analysis of what I’ve read, even if it must be ten pages long, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman. Ah, the good ol’ days.

I digress.

Book club is always good for delicious food too, and lots of it! But then I eat to the point of misery. We had caprese pasta salad, green beans, spicy mac ‘n cheese, tex mex quinoa, pita chips and hummus, s’mores brownie bites, and compost cookies. AHHHH!! It’s one of the nights I usually indulge in a little bit of wine too, and Marisa brought my favorite – Bouchaine Pinot Noir! I was racking my brain trying to figure out how she heard of Bouchaine and ordered some since we didn’t go there on our Napa trip but then I remembered duh – she bought some when I ordered a case of it last year!! Delish.


Speaking of drinking wine while pregnant, Shane sent me a really interesting article the other day – it’s very well-written and I enjoyed it - Yes to Coffee and Wine: Rewriting the Rules of Pregnancy.  Like I said, I’ll have a bit of wine a couple of times a week and I drink a cup of tea or coffee every morning. My friend Sarah’s sister is an obstetrician, and I follow her rule of “everything in moderation except crack cocaine.” HAH! That never fails to crack me up – because, what, is regular cocaine ok? Just kidding. But really, there are so many scare tactics out there for pregnant women, especially in the US. So frustrating and unnecessarily stressful.

Ran 6 miles yesterday morning with Shea. Had a minor bathroom emergency and needed a pit stop and some moral support to find said pit stop. FUN. Oh well, after the stop the run went well and I made it home in one piece. Still running 4:1 intervals (4 minutes running, 1 minute walking), so if I stay in the 11:00-11:30 range with the walking breaks I am happy.

And yesterday evening I ventured out to my first prenatal yoga class at Joy Yoga. They hold this class every Tuesday at 7pm, so I’ll be going back (since I bought a five-class package). It was an hour and fifteen minutes, and we all went around and introduced ourselves and said how far along we are, and then we did some flow through the easy positions as well as 20 mintues of meditation. I’ve been feeling really restless and anxious lately so I thought maybe this would help. We shall see.

One frustrating thing is that Salvation Army came by to pick up the china buffet that is currently in the baby’s room (we had it in our house in NC but our house here has no dining room). According to my SiL Aimee, who was nice enough to work from our house to meet them, they sent their frailest workers with a two-wheel dolly and one of the wheels was broken. I don’t know what made them think they’d be able to handle it. So now we still have a china buffet in the baby’s room. GET OUT NOW. If anyone is in the market, let me know. Otherwise I guess we will reschedule and make sure they know to bring a four-wheel dolly and people who can lift things.


Tonight I MUST take my bridesmaid dress (for DC Jess’ wedding!) to be altered. She got me a couple of sizes bigger to accommodate the bump, but it needs to be taken in at the top and sides. I’ve heard this place has one-week turnaround, so that’s good. I wanted to wait til we’d be as close to the wedding as we could so it would fit the best!

I thought that WSJ article was SO interesting. I particularly loved her whole point about causation vs correlation. So many of these studies are skewed and are completely ridiculous, so it was nice to see a more balanced perspective. She ended up writing an entire book on her findings – I think it’s called “Expecting Better”? Either way, I’m with you!
