I can’t believe I had never been to Bingo in The Heights before!! We went last night and it was awesome….
Every Thursday, the SPJST Lodge (a Czech organization) hosts Bingo. It’s about a half mile walk from my house, so silly of me to not have gone before now. I had heard how much fun it was and was ready to experience some good cheap thrills for myself.
Early bird Bingo starts at 7pm and regular Bingo starts at 7:30. But the trick is to get there as soon as you can after the doors open at 5:15 to save seats. I sauntered over (in 100 degree weather, oops) at 5:30 and to hold seats for me, Shea, and Kyle. Shane was very jealous that he was on his way home from a work trip and couldn’t join. Next time! Oh, and there will definitely be a next time!
They sell pitchers of beer, but you can also bring your own wine or liquor AND your own food (we ordered Pink’s Pizza!). I bought a bingo card for $5 and a dobber for $1. CHEAP entertainment – each card actually has 6 cards and they’re for all 10 games:
The pots were actually pretty large! I was surprised.
Most games win $110. The caller’s choice games went for $140 and the cover all games were $300 and $600!
It was definitely an OLD SCHOOL Bingo hall.
You can also elect to participate in the Early Bird games, of which there are 2 and the sheets are $1 each. We played!
On to regular Bingo – Shea and Kyle were ready to go!
Crazy Bingo eyes.
Kyle studies his card intently – will he win??
I only needed one more number (damn you B12) for a regular Bingo but otherwise I didn’t come close in the games. Oh well! Super cheap fun - almost 3 hours of entertainment!! Here’s my card from the last game – $600 cover all; I had bought an extra card for $1 for that game. Wouldn’t that have been awesome if it won? Well, it was a loser too.
I have played Bingo in a hall with my mom before, but it was all smoky. The lodge is non-smoking, which is fantastic. And it’s mostly a 20-and-30-something crowd, really fun. Every time O69 was called, it got a lot of cheers and whistles. Real mature, yall.
I can’t wait to go back!
Ever played Bingo before? Besides when you were a kid at school, of course…
