Race Recap: The Woodlands Half Marathon

in Race Recaps

I was shooting for a PR at this race but ended up being a little disappointed with my time.  I was hoping for more like 1:52.  BUT to be fair, I did not give it my all.  I went out with the goal to still have gas in the tank at the end (who am I, right?) and not feel like shit.  Hey, I had a 50 mile ride on Sunday and did not want to be completely spent.  So I spent most of the race holding myself back….I now know I could have pushed a little harder and been ok, but oh well.  Next time. I guess KNOWING I could have gotten the 1:52 is almost as good as actually doing it.  Psych, no it ain’t.

Went up the night before with a few fun gals….think we might have gotten addicted to Duck Dynasty, which we watched before going to sleep.  Pretty funny.

Race ready in the Marriott lobby – Marisa, Aimee, me, Emily

At Mile 4 my buddy Brian caught up to me and we ran together for a bit before I walked through the water stop (standard).  He took off and I couldn’t catch him!

Shane totally PR’ed his spectating by catching me three times on a half marathon!  Saw him at mile 6, he asked how I was and I said, “tired.”  It usually takes me 3 or 4 miles to really find my groove but this time I felt sleepy.  Gave him a kiss (other spectators awwwwwwed) and kept going.

Yeah, it’s all fun and games til about mile 9, 3383.

The next time I saw him was at Mile 10.  Gave him my arm warmers and ear band, it got hotter than I expected. 3 miles to go, here I come.  Haulin it in to the finish.

Don’t know why but felt like the finisher chute lasted for 3/4 mile. Crazy long.  Final time 1:56:44.  I’ll take it.  Oh and Emily got a new PR at Woodlands!! Yay!!  She is on the San Diego team with us this year and shooting for her first full – gonna crush it!
My new race photo op thing is pointing at my bib like people care about my number.  I tried finger guns but those look stupid.  Might be back to “hook ‘em horns” signs – why would I ever give that up?

Worst race recap ever.  Strike that – the worst race recap is saved for the worst race – Oceanside 70.3.  Comin up – great trip, horrible race.  Gah.

In about 3.5 months, I will be expecting someone (you) to be making some race plans with me! =) Right now, I am definitely thinking some of the Houston marathon warm up races, maybe Memphis Full in December, Disney with TNT, and Houston….not sure what else. Think about it. Fun fun fun times!

I am looking at Woodlands for my A race next season. We’ll see what kind of shape I’m in!
