in Holidays Happen,Just Nothing

Tonight was funny.  I’ve never been a huge fan of Valentine’s Day.  It’s basically a crock of shit.  I’m in love, so why is this day special-er than the others?  It’s not.  I made it very clear to Shane in the card I bought him that I spent money on a card that says things he already knows – I love us.

I went for a run after work.  I felt gross and crabby and just needed to work out. Ran a fast loop at Memorial before heading home for a shower – tossed my hair in a bun, threw on jeans, t-shirt, sweater.  Whatever.  Who cares, right?  It’s just another day.

But it’s rare that Shane and I have reason to go out on a Thursday night.  Why would we?  Just stay at home.  We had decided to venture out to Bellisimo, a Mexican-inspired Italian (is that a thing?) place.  It’s a BYOB hole-in-the-wall a couple of miles from the house. We of course ordered the same thing (we always do, it’s very annoying) – jalapeno pasta in alfredo sauce with onions, tomatoes, and diced jalapenos.  SO good.

The best part was, we got to sit and have some conversation.  It’s so easy to fall into a routine of not really talking about our days, just cooking dinner and eating and watching TV and joking.  But we got to talk about work and life and it was really refreshing.  Sometimes it’s nice to just talk.

Our 8th Valentine’s Day together.  Try not to be disgusted by our very literal pet names for each other.

PS – all cards on Valentine’s Day are seriously stupid.

I think this was the first time I ever got Andrew a Valentine’s Day card and it was mostly because he’s not hear to smooch at. But yeah, the cards are ridiculous.
