Weekend Recap: YHL, Shabbat dinner, absolutely nothing, missed 25K, and more nothing

in Just Nothing,Weekend Recap

This weekend was a strange one in the G-burg household.  In that I mostly did nothing and it was everything I thought it would be and more.

Can we start on Thursday though?  I know it’s not the weekend, but something very exciting happened.  I met John and Sherry of Young House Love!  Aimee and I stood in like for TWO HOURS to get our books signed, and then we got a few pics.  YHL says, “hook ‘em, horns!”

Then I got THIS awesomeness:

They are natural longhorns, almost sure of it.

Friday was busy, though!  We are in a Jewish young adult group called JewstonTexas (see what they did there?), and there’s a monthly Shabbat dinner.  This Friday, we were the hosts!  We had about 45 people at our house over the course of three or so hours, and it was so much fun!  It’s not very religious – we say the blessings over the candles, challah, and wine, but then it’s schmooze time.  The organization provides the food – this time it was salad, baked ziti, brownies (delish), and apps.  I didn’t know half the people who came, so it was great to see new faces and make some new friends!  Plus some of our non-Jewish friends attended, so they got to see just a little bit about the tribe’s culture (sorta…)

Sneak peek:

Very fun!

On Saturday I woke up and was still feeling pretty sick from a cold I’d had all week.  I water stopped with Marisa and we ran for awhile.  Ugh, felt awful.  Came home but instead of a nap I took some Sudafed.  Man, that stuff really works!  I was pretty productive around the house – had a lot of cleaning up to do from the dinner!  Met Aimee for a walk with the dogs along the bayou before cooking some dinner, watching a movie, and heading to bed early.  I was supposed to drive a few friends to the 25K so we could race in the morning.  I woke up at 5:30 and it was NOT happening.  I texted them that I was bailing (sorry, guys!), very out of character.  I opted to SLEEP IN til 9am and it was glorious.  I think that sleep really helped because today I feel much better.  Running 15.5 miles in the cold?  Would not have helped.

Went to brunch with Amy D at Beaver’s – super spicy bloody marys ftw.

I surprised her with a signed copy of the YHL book – she loves them too!

My friend Lindsay had invited me to Opera in the Heights to see Romeo & Juliet.  I had never been to the opera before and jumped at the chance to find out what I was missing.  Well, it was certainly a new experience but what I found out was that opera is not for me. #tooboring    I mean, the first act was 2 hours, yall.  Not ok.  We were by far the youngest people there.  But I was glad to check it out and Lindsay’s company is always wonderful.  We giggled at opera swordfights and large men with chicken legs wearing tights.  Aaaaaand the pretty much made up plot until the end (Romeo killed Juliet’s brother? Juliet’s wedding to Tybalt? Pretty sure he was her cousin.  Pretty gross).

Since I had missed getting in a really good run Saturday morning AND Sunday morning, I texted Shea to ask for a make-up run and she was ready to go!  We ran 6.5 miles at a decent pace along the bayou, under 610 up to a dog park she had been to before.  Back to her house and back to feeling like I can run.  I really hate being sick.  I told a friend that I would eat raw meat if it would cure me – I truly cannot stand it.

Cheesy pizza and DVR for the remainder of Sunday.  A fantastic weekend indeed!

[edited to add] – I forgot that on Saturday we also succeeded in squeezing 3 grown women and a 5 gallon cooler into Marisa’s SmartCar.  I look really comfortable on Ally’s lap!

The three of us also dined at Black Walnut Cafe (a favorite), where my drinks cost more and took up more space than my meal – water, mimosa, and caramel cappucino.  YUM.

Didn’t we talk about YHL in Vegas at dinner? Did that happen or did I imagine it? I love them so much, especially since they live in my town and because I’ve been reading them forever and ever and because they seem like genuinely amazing people.
