The weekend started out with a first experience at HRTC (Houston Racing Triathlon Club) Splash ‘n Dash on Friday. 400m swim in Lake 288 plus a mile run. I have no idea what my time was, but it was a lot of fun. Except for the fact that there was no slip-n-slide at the end; Joanna and I were promised a slip-n-slide.
Woke up at 4:15 on Saturday to start an 18-mile run by 5:00. It was…rough. It was hot, but not as hot as it could have been, and my legs were super tired. At mile 16 I was just kinda like…feh. Lost my mojo. But I did push myself pretty hard in the middle by running 4 of the miles at an 8:30 pace – I really wanted to simulate how I usuallyyyy feel at mile 22 or so.
No time to nap – had to get ready for Jess’ wine fundraiser. I knew this probably was going to be interesting based on the run, lack of sleep, dehydration, etc. We went to The Cellar Door in Katy and got a wine tasting class, 14 (FOURTEEN!!!) tastings, and even though the wine was not that great, Shea and I bought some bottles “to support.”
I wish I had a photo of the group, but everyone forgot to take a picture. There were 10 of us, and it was a blast! We went back to Jess, Jordann, and Danielle’s for lunch and um…more wine??
A VERY fun dinner at Shea & Kyle’s with all of our dogs – including delicious veggie burgers, another carafe of wine, and more. Thanks really to the guys for cooking our dinner while we mostly just lounged and drank, hah.
Sunday was Erin’s birthday brunch at Benjy’s! That place is DELICIOUS! They brought out little muffins and jalapeno biscuits, mmm. I had the breakfast plate (minus the meat, duh) – crunchy nut French toast, market eggs, potatoes…YUM. And they easily have the BEST bloody mary I’ve ever had. So spicy! And since none of the gals like olives, I got my mitts on four of ‘em. Everyone had a great time celebrating Erin’s 29th!
Finished up with a tour at the museum and grocery shopping. All in all, successful weekend to say the least.
