Isn’t it a pain when a holiday falls on a Wednesday, just for PTO purposes?  Now I’m not complaining about a day off to celebrate our nation, I’m just saying if it had been on either Tuesday or Thursday, it woulda been 4-day weekend central.  But alas.

We went to the Houston Dynamo (MLS) game against Chicago Fire on Tuesday, thanks to some company tickets.  The new stadium is really cool.  We were in the very back row and still had an awesome view:

Houston sunset.  I was slippin ‘n slidin all in my seat from the pouring SWEAT ON THE BACKS OF MY LEGS.  Soaked khaki shorts; so hot outside.  Houston, I adore you but I swear you might as well have been built on the surface of the sun.

Game ended in a 0-0 tie – YAWN.  But the fireworks display afterward was fun!

Independence Day started with the Run Wild 5K at Uptown Park.  This is where I kick myself for not taking more pictures.  We all had a great time even though it was already blazing out – at 7:30am.  Running doesn’t help.  I just can’t take the heat (literally) – “it’s too hot” is NOT a good mantra.  I finished in 26:10 – 8:26 pace.  I know that’s not terrible but I was kinda beating myself up for not having enough kick to throw it into gear at the end.  I should have been able to go harder; I would have really been happy with anything under 24 minutes since it was so hot out, but it wasn’t meant to be.  Very proud of my SiL Aimee though – she PR’ed by coming in under 30 minutes – OW OW!! Watch out yall!

By the time I got home, Shane was awake so I rallied instead of napping and we went to breakfast at Java Java – delicious!  I had the huevos rancheros and Shane had the migas.  Unless something is truly awesome, he always says it’s “ok,” but he said the migas were good so they must have been pretty tasty.  We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping and pool-partying with friends before coming home to a date with the couch, leftovers, and HBO.  And of course consoling Mac, who thought the noise from the fireworks was thunder.

Hope yall had a great holiday!  Do anything fun?  Anyone else get up early on the day off to run?  I wanna hear about it!

I’m so jealous that you went to a Dynamo game! I’ve been dying to go to one since they opened the new stadium.
